 <![CDATA[VCFD firefighters utilized the Medina County Career Center Safety Services Training Site for their April 9 training session. Personnel practiced skills for fire attack using the 1 3/4&amp;quot; line, 2 1/2&amp;quot; line, and the deck gun. Crews advanced the 1 3/4&amp;quot; line in full protective clothing and Self Contained Breathing Apparatus to the 3rd floor of the building and flowed water out of the window. The 2 1/2&amp;quot; line was operated by crews of three and also the Keenan Loop which allows one firefighter to operate the 2 1/2&amp;quot; line from stationary position. Firefighters practiced master stream operations by removing the deck gun from Engine 11 and crews assembled it for ground operations.  	<title>MVA/Hazmat Incident on Boston Road</title>

On Wednesday September 29th at 1536, Valley City
Fire Department was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident in front of 6250
Boston Rd. On arrival units found a Fabrizi dump truck which had gone off the
road and turned onto its side next to a pond. The dump truck was leaking hydraulic
fluid and diesel fuel. Absorbent Pads were placed under the leaks and special
absorbent booms were placed in the pond to contain fluids which had spread into
the pond. The leak was contained to the immediate area. Valley City Fire
department responded with Engine-11, Rescue-18, Squad 17-1. Valley City Fire
Department was also assisted on scene by Medina County Sheriffs, Ohio State Patrol,
Medina County Hazmat Team, Ohio EPA, Richâs Towing, and Fabriziâs. The driver
of the truck was transported to Southwest General Hospital with minor injuries.
Boston road remained closed throughout the incident. All Valley City Fire
Department Vehicles returned to service at 1840.

 	<title>MVC-700 Block of Columbia Rd</title>

 <![CDATA[September 8, 2011 at 1621 hours VCFD was dispatched to reported MVA in the 700 block of Columbia Road with the report of one person unconscious. First arriving Squad 17-1 reported a two vehicle MVA with one driver trapped in an overturned vehicle with utility lines down. Squad 17-1 requested Metro Life Flight to transport the trapped driver, initially the weather prohibited Metro from flying, but it quickly changed and they responded. Rescue 18 arrived and freed the trapped driver with extrication tools, while providing fire suppression due to the presence of gasoline vapors. Squad 17-2 checked the driver of the second vehicle who refused transport. Deputies from the Medina County SheriffsOffice located an open field behind a nearby residence and Engine 11 responded to provide support to the landing zone (LZ) for Metro Life Flight. Car 19-1 and Brush 14 provided traffic control on Columbia Road at Myrtle Hill and Center Roads. The trapped driver was transported by Metro Life Flight to Metro Health Medical Center. First Energy responded to remove the downed utility support pole and the Ohio State Patrol investigated the crash....]]>

 <![CDATA[On July 17 at 1839 hours, VCFD was dispatched to a reported fire of an unknown type at 22 Marks Road. Additional information reported it as a barn fire with another barn as an exposure. First arriving Engine 11 reported a working barn fire and they requested a second alarm which brought engines from Brunswick City, Brunswick Hills, Erhart-York Twp., and Medina Twp, squads responding included Medina Life Support Team and Strongsville FD. Engine 11 initated an attack with&nbsp; a 2 1/2" line knocking down the fire which had extended from the first floor to second floor of the barn. A car on fire outside the entrance of the barn was extinguished also. The occupant reported that he had been welding on the car on a lift inside the barn. He went into the house and returned to find the car and the barn both on fire. The occupant move the car from the barn with a skid steer and used a garden hose to fight the fire. Firefighters conducted overhaul on both the first and second floor and checked for hot spots with a thermal imager camera. Firefighters were rotated to a Rehab area to receive drinking water and have their vital signs checked to ensure their safety. No firefighter injuries were reported, Squad 17-1 did exam one of the occupants, but the occupant was not transported. No damage estimate was available at this time. Strongsville PD and Medina County Sheriffs Department assisted also. The Valley City Fire Department, in an
effort to further it's professional training has teamed up with Life
Care Center of Medina and the Medina County Sheriff's office and will
be holding a training class on Saturday and Sunday June 11th
and 12th from 0900 to 1400 hrs.Life Care Center of Medina has donated
the use of a building that will be demolished and the Medina Co.
Sheriffs SWAT team and the Valley City â Liverpool Twp. Fire
department are conducting training sessions there. The SWAT team has
planned to bring their new tactical vehicle on Sunday to practice
entering the building using force tactics.The Fire department has been practicing
in the building on such skills as ventilation techniques, fallen man
rescue, hose advancement procedures and rope rescue. They will

On Saturday 5-14-2011 at 1733 Valley City Fire Department
was dispatched to 1533 Heavenly View Ln. for a house struck by lightning, fire
in the attic. On arrival Engine 11 found light smoke coming from the roof.&nbsp; The fire was extinguished within 15 minutes
and was contained to a small section of the roof.&nbsp; No injuries to occupants or damage to the
contents of the house were reported.&nbsp;
Engine 11, Engine 12, Heavy Rescue 18, Squad 17-1, Car 19-1, and utility
19-2 responded to the call.

On 5-14-2011 Valley City Fire Department Participated in a
16 department, 4 county water shuttle exercise at the Cleveland Hopkins
Airport. The exercise was to plan for the event of a water system failure at
the airport. The exercise involved drafting water out of a nearby pond and shuttling
it with water tenderâs to the airport where it was dumped into a tank and
pumped to one of the airport crash trucks. Valley City Participated with
