On
November 26,2010 at 1228 hours. Valley City FD was dispatched to a
reported fire in a detached garage at 885 Erhart Northern Road.
Within five minutes of receiving the initial alarm the Medina County
Sheriffs Office Dispatchers reported receiving more than one call
reporting the fire. VCFD personnel then requested a second alarm
based on the multiple calls bringing mutual aid companies. First
arriving Engine 11 found an approximately 30' x 100' 1 ½ story
garage well involved with exposures on side 2 and side 4. Engine 11
requested a third alarm. An aggressive attack protected the exposures
and limited the fire to the garage. Side two exposures included a
silo and an appoximately 75' x 200' 3 story barn that were threatened
by the fire and 20 mph winds. A tanker shuttle was established for
water supply due to no hydrants on Erhart Northern Road. Responding
mutual aid companies included Brunswick Hills Ladder 26, Brunswick
City Engine 1, Columbia Engine 211, Erhart Tanker 53-1, Litchfield
Tanker 43-2, and Medina LST Medic 1. The garage and its contents
including a pick-up truck and some farm equipment were destroyed in
the fire. One Valley City firefighter suffered a broken leg and was
transported by Squad 17-1 to Southwest General. The Medina County
Fire Investigation Unit was summoned and determined an electrical
problem was the cause of the fire. Liverpool Twp. Service Department
provided traffic control signs and a backhoe to assist in the
overhaul of the fire. During the overhaul Squad 17-1 and Brunswick
Hills Squad 27-1 responded to an EMS call at another community
business. The last engine left the fire scene at 1614 hours.
